DTN COMMENTS:  This afternoon cash cattle country remains quiet, although 
a few early asking prices have been noted in parts of Texas at $225. Bids 
remain very elusive. Significant trade volume will likely be delayed 
until Wednesday or later. 

Today's slaughter totaled 122,000 head, 3,000 less than last week, and 
5,000 below a year ago. Cattle futures closed sharply to significantly 
higher on both live (up 427 to 532) and feeder (up 840 to 915) contracts. 
Beef cutouts are expected to close lower with light to moderate box 
movement.
